Post Anyone ever toy around with 3D art?
Well I'm a pretty technical person. I program well, and can spend hours fumbling through logic till I figure it out. But I pretty much suck at Art.
Yet so many things I do with computers have me coming back to the art aspect, and I really do enjoy playing around with it.

One of my favorite things to do is create 3D models, and while I don't have any real goal for this thread, I'd like to see if anyone else here has created or is currently working on some 3D models they'd like to share with everyone here at macro monkey.

Currently I'm playing around with Blender 3D, making a XM8 Assault rifle. The one I'm going to show looks the best, but it's not something I'd use in a game. With more time and some really low poly models and i'll have a basic one for a game (just doodling with Blender Game Engine really).

I'll update pictures as I progress through the model, I've been working on it several hours and I'm actually using rendered pictures as reference since they were the best I could come across for this particular weapon.

Post anything, outdo me, or don't. The first model I ever created and shared was a sub-surfed cube sitting on a sphere, and I was sooo proud of that ;)

Looks like weapons from Star Trek TNG.

I used to a lot back when 3DS was still a DOS program.
Then a few years ago with Maya where I had to learn MEL script for a game project, etc.

Good to make "programmer art" I think.
It's an art for sure, but a nice thing about it is that if you can get or make a 3D model with good
textures and what not you can slap somethings to make nice renderings with out having to be
a good at drawing/painting

Yes tell me about it. Hmm I should really finish up this model, I'm almost completed with it ><
I like the detail I can go into in a 3d space. I can't do 2d art so well, at least not without a touch pad. But I know I can't draw freehand either

I know this is a dead thread but havent really looked at it before. Just wanted to tell you that you can import requiem models into max with skeletons and animations and all, if you would want to examine how they do it.

Requiem models are in .nif file format. NIFTOOLS can read these and there is also nif importer for it

I've toyed with game models before. First time was Halo 1 models. Honestly I have a whole lot more fun just creating them myself provided I have the skill to do so.
